Not Every King is Perfect: Spongy Tissue in Alphonso Mangoes
Alphonso mangoes may occasionally be affected by a natural physiological disorder known as spongy tissue. This condition results in internal pulp breakdown appearing as pale yellow or white cork-like areas—sometimes with air pockets—near the seed. The taste of affected portions may be undesirable. Interestingly, these mangoes show no visible signs from the outside; the issue is only noticeable once cut open.
Can You Eat Mangoes with Spongy Tissue?
A mango with white patches inside is generally safe to eat, though it may lack full flavor.
The unaffected portions of the fruit are usually completely fine and remain edible.
At Indian Mango Delights, we understand that many customers enjoy Alphonso mangoes despite the occasional presence of spongy tissue. However, please note that we do not offer refunds or replacements for mangoes affected by this natural condition.
This disclaimer is intended to inform and educate our valued customers about the inherent irregularities associated with Alphonso mangoes.
