Spongy Tissue Disclaimer for Alphonso Mango

Alphonso mango, often hailed as the “King of Fruits,” is renowned for its rich flavor, smooth texture, and high nutritional value. While it’s one of the most delicious varieties of Mangifera Indica, it isn’t without flaws—some may have an internal pulp defect known as “spongy tissue.”
Not Every King is Perfect: Spongy Tissue in Alphonso Mangoes
Alphonso mangoes may occasionally be affected by a natural physiological disorder known as spongy tissue, which results in internal pulp breakdown. This condition appears as unripe, pale yellow or white cork-like areas—sometimes with air pockets—near the seed, often accompanied by an undesirable taste. Importantly, these affected mangoes show no visible signs from the outside and the issue is only noticeable once the fruit is cut open.
Can You Eat Mangoes with Spongy Tissue?
A mango with white patches inside is generally safe to eat, though it may lack full flavor.
The unaffected portions of the fruit are usually completely fine and remain edible.
Alphonso Mangoes – Our Refund & Replacement Policy
At Indian Mango Delights, we understand that many customers still enjoy Alphonso mangoes despite the occasional presence of spongy tissue. However, please note that we do not offer refunds or replacements for mangoes affected by this natural condition.
This disclaimer is intended to inform and educate our valued customers about the inherent irregularities associated with Alphonso mangoes.
There are several other flavorful varieties of this “King of Fruits” that have little to no incidence of spongy tissue like Kesar, Banganapalle, and more.
We hope this information helps—and may the sweet aroma of mangoes bring joy to you and your loved ones!
Fruitfully Yours,
